You banish a creature that you can see within range into a labyrinthine demiplane. The target remains there for the duration or until it escapes the maze.

The target can take a Study action to try to escape. When it does so, it makes a DC 20 Intelligence (Investigation) check. If it succeeds, it escapes, and the spell ends.

When the spell ends, the target reappears in the space it left or, if that space is occupied, in the nearest unoccupied space.

The target can use its action to attempt to escape. When it does so, it makes a DC 20 Intelligence check. If it succeeds, it escapes, and the spell ends (a minotaur or goristro demon automatically succeeds).

Maze 5.5e 2024 vs. 5e 2014 edition differences

Maze now uses an Intelligence (Investigation) check instead of a plain Intelligence check, and the automatic escape for minotaurs and goristro demons is gone.

Maze popularity

How popular is Maze? It is one of the rarest spells in the game, and is chosen less than other options when available. This spell is for the most unconventional spellcasters only.
