You have resistance to acid, cold, fire, lightning, and thunder damage for the spell's duration.
When you take damage of one of those types, you can use your reaction to gain immunity to that type of damage, including against the triggering damage. If you do so, the resistances end, and you have the immunity until the end of your next turn, at which time the spell ends.
Primordial Ward 5.5e 2024 vs. 5e 2014 edition differences

Spells similar to Primordial Ward
Globe of Invulnerability 6th-level abjuration
It serves the same broad purpose of shielding you from dangerous magical effects, but on a wider, more anti-spell scale.
Fire Shield 4th-level evocation
Like the target spell, it protects you from elemental harm while you stay in the thick of things, though it focuses on fire or cold.
Invulnerability 9th-level abjuration
Both are high-level self-protection spells meant to shrug off damage, with a very defensive, last-stand feel.
Absorb Elements 1st-level abjuration
This also reacts to elemental damage by cutting it down, and it can briefly turn that protection into something stronger.
Protection from Energy 3rd-level abjuration
It’s the closest match: both are abjurations that wrap a creature in energy resistance for a timed concentration effect.
