Cantrip Upgrade. The damage increases by 1d6 when you reach level 5 (2d6), level 11 (3d6), and level 17 (4d6).

Vicious Mockery 5.5e 2024 vs. 5e 2014 edition differences
The 2024 version increases damage from 1d4 to 1d6, with upgrades at levels 5, 11, and 17 (adding 1d6 each time). It allows targeting a creature that can hear or see, whereas the 2014 version only specifies see. Damage scaling and target conditions are the main mechanical differences.
