Up to ten berries appear in your hand and are infused with magic for the duration. A creature can use its action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 hit point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day.

The berries lose their potency if they have not been consumed within 24 hours of the casting of this spell.

Goodberry 5.5e 2024 vs. 5e 2014 edition differences

Range changed from Touch to Self, duration changed from Instantaneous to 24 hours, and eating a berry is now a Bonus Action instead of an Action. It also always makes ten berries, not up to ten.

Goodberry popularity

Goodberry is a seldom chosen level 1 spell. Choosing it adds a unique option to your spellbook.

Spells similar to Goodberry

  • Create Food and Water 3rd-level conjuration

It directly creates nourishment out of magic and is the closest match in purpose to conjuring edible provisions.

  • Heroes' Feast 6th-level conjuration

Although much stronger, it also conjures food that grants healing and long‑lasting benefits to a group, echoing Goodberry's food-as-healing concept.

  • Cure Wounds 1st-level abjuration

This is the archetypal single-target, immediate healing option at the same spell level that players reach for when they need to restore hit points.

  • Healing Word 1st-level abjuration

It provides quick, short-range healing as a bonus action, matching Goodberry's tactical value of rapid low-cost healing in combat.

  • Aid 2nd-level abjuration

It supplies a modest, lasting boost to hit points for multiple allies, similar to how Goodberry provides small, durable recovery over time.
